Emel Hospital Festac Town, Lagos, Nigeria is a multi-specialty hospital located on 21 Road, Z Close in Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Lagos, Nigeria. Emel Hospital is a purpose-built 44-bed hospital located on property specifically granted for its use by the Federal Housing Authority. Dr. Olufemi Mobolaji-Lawal, a consultant paediatrician, created Emel Hospital in 1988. Dr. Mobolaji-Lawal educated as a doctor at University College Hospital in Ibadan and as a pediatrician in the United Kingdom. Prior to opening Emel Hospital, he served as a consultant paediatrician at Ikeja General Hospital (now Lagos State University Teaching Hospital) in Lagos. He is the board’s chairman, and his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Margaret Mobolaji-Lawal, is a non-executive director.

Prof. Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, Nigeria’s Honorable Minister of Health at the time, declared the hospital open on December 9, 1988. In 1993, the Federal Ministry of Health classified it the first private hospital in Lagos, Nigeria, as a “Baby Friendly Hospital”. We are a well-known and leading pediatric referral center in the Amuwo Odofin region and surrounding areas, as well as offering general medical care and specialty services in obstetrics and gynaecology, internal medicine, and a variety of surgical specialties. Job Summary

  • The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacist in dispensing medications, inventory control, and ensuring proper storage and documentation of pharmaceutical products.
  • The role is vital to maintaining a smooth and efficient workflow in the hospital pharmacy while ensuring patient safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
Dispensing and Patient Interaction:

  • Assist in preparing and dispensing prescribed medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Label medication containers accurately and ensure clear instructions are provided to patients.
  • Provide basic medication counseling and refer complex inquiries to the pharmacist.
  • Ensure prescriptions are verified for accuracy and completeness.

Inventory Management:

  • Receive, unpack, and organize pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of drugs and supplies in the pharmacy.
  • Monitor stock levels and notify the pharmacist of shortages or near-expiry drugs.
  • Participate in periodic stock-taking and report discrepancies promptly.

Documentation and Records:

  • Maintain proper records of dispensed medications.
  • Assist in preparing reports on drug usage, stock levels, and expired medications.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of drug receipts, returns, and transfers.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure drugs are stored according to required standards (e.g., temperature-sensitive items).
  • Adhere strictly to hospital policies, regulatory guidelines, and SOPs.
  • Practice proper infection control and hygiene procedures.
  • Dispose of expired or damaged drugs in accordance with pharmacy policy.

Support Functions:

  • Support inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations.
  • Help in repackaging medications as required.
  • Assist in compounding simple medications when necessary and permitted by law.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy work area.

Experience and credentials:

Qualified candidates must have the following Credentials before applying for the Graduate Job at Emel Hospitals Limited:

Key Requirements

  • Qualification: Pharmacy Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
  • License: Valid license from the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).
  • Experience: At least 1–2 years of relevant experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy.
  • Sound knowledge of medications and dispensing procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer literacy (especially for EMR).

Salary
N85,000 – N100,000 / month.
